How to Use Tap and Die Set

2024-07-25 15:04:57
Whether you are a mechanic, craftsman, metal or woodworker, tap and die set are very useful to you and are essential tools for your work. Taps and dies are cutting tools used to create threads on parts such as screws, bolts, nuts, and create threaded holes to screw parts in.

It’s important to select tap and die set. The Tap and die set is made up of different sizes of taps, dies and drill bits for a variety of applications. Usually have high speed steel and carbon steel material, the former is more expensive but stronger, and used in a wider range of materials.
Please remember to check the set sizes are within your desired thread cutting range before purchasing. Tap and Die Sete4i
Most tapping operations are performed manually, but power tapping is electric, such as spiral point plug tapping. Tapping operations can also be driven by lathes, radial drilling machines, bench drilling machines and similar shop machines. We will discuss manual operation using tap and die, as it is the most common. The clicking process consists of the following steps:

Firstly, prepare the hole. It is usually done by drilling a hole with a diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the faucet. This diameter is called the tapping drill size. Drill a hole, either blind or through, and make sure to remove all debris from the hole. Then select the right tap size, you may have to use taper thread first and plug, bottom. Use the appropriate tap wrench according to the size of the tap. They usually have two sizes. Using a larger tap wrench for a small tap may cause too much force, which can break the tap.

Secondly, create the threads. Use a vise or clamp to secure the material to be threaded. Insert the tap, make sure it is centered and aligned, and turn it twice clockwise. Then turn it half a turn counterclockwise. Repeat the process until threading is complete. This tapping method prevents the broken material from damaging the new thread. Keep the material and tap centered and level during the process. If you feel some bin ding force, spin half a circle counterclockwise and try again. Finally remove the tap. Complete the tapping process by turning the tap wrench counterclockwise until the tap is completely closed.

The process of threading with a die is similar to the tap. First, prepare the rod. The diameter of the material should be slightly less than the main diameter of the mold. The die has a chamfered side that serves as the entry side of the rod.

Chamfering helps in the center of the die on the rod and reduces the initial turning force when threading. Then, select the right die for the right size wrench. Use a vise or clamp to secure the material to be threaded. Place the die on the material and start threading on the chamfered side. Center and align the mold and turn it twice clockwise.dies and wrench9co
Then turn it half a turn counterclockwise. Repeat the process until threading is complete. Use cutting fluid as needed. Turn the wrench anticlockwise until the die is entirely out. The threading process is complete.

Choosing and learning to use a tap die set will make your work more handy!
